"Dear Sirs,

I should have written this thank you note a long time ago, but I guess better late than never.

Back in May 2022, you held a blood test session at Luton Town Football Club, and I attended. My Dad had died of prostate cancer because he avoided the issue - and that was not going to happen to me. I’d had a test at my doctors and was told I had an enlarged prostate - but nothing to worry about apparently. 

Since that test, I had not had a repeat and had moved house and doctors surgery - I fell off the watch list.

The results from the Luton Town Football Club test came back at 3.5 - an amber warning notice result for my age at that time and I took the results along to my new GP. He gave me a test and re-did the blood tests. I was referred to Luton & Dunstable hospital and for my 60th birthday received a biopsy ! Joy ! But not my best present, but my best present too as it happens.

A very blunt surgeon told me in no uncertain terms I had aggressive prostate cancer and that they would be referring me for surgery. I was Gleason 8 and at Stage 2. Bonus ! Surgery. That happened in November 2022. Up until just recently, I was getting great PSA test results, but they are starting to climb again, and it looks like I shall be having further treatment in the not too distant future.

If I had not had that test at the Football Club, I may not be saying how lucky I’ve been. If I’d not had that test, the outcome could have been so much worse.

I’d no idea how lucky I was that your organisation did what it does until I started to ask about. I am incredibly grateful. My wife is also incredibly grateful.
