Sir Chris Hoy, Six-Time Olympic Cycling Champion, Diagnosed with Terminal Prostate Cancer Aged Only 48

06 Nov, 2024 | Return|

In a new BBC interview, Sir Chris Hoy, six-time Olympic cycling champion, aged only 48, discussed his personal battle with terminal prostate cancer.

Since his diagnosis in September 2023, Sir Chris has shared his experiences to raise awareness about prostate cancer, contributing to a surge in NHS searches on the topic.

Reflecting on the physical and emotional challenges, he revealed how he copes with chemotherapy through mental resilience and support from family. Remarkably, both he and his wife, Sarra, are managing serious health battles—she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis around the same time.

Despite these struggles, Sir Chris has found ways to focus on the positive, emphasising the importance of early detection. He encourages men over 45 or with a family history of prostate cancer to seek PSA testing, urging healthcare officials to consider lowering the screening age.

Through his advocacy, he hopes to save lives by promoting early testing. His upcoming charity bike ride and his new book, All That Matters: My Toughest Race Yet, aim to further inspire and support others facing similar hardships.
