High Omega-3, Low Omega-6 Fatty Acid Diet With Fish Oil for Men With Prostate Cancer on Active Surveillance
A new prostate cancer research update from Practice Update:
High Omega-3, Low Omega-6 Fatty Acid Diet With Fish Oil for Men With Prostate Cancer on Active Surveillance - https://www.practiceupdate.com/c/173709/2/1/
The study tested whether a diet high in omega-3s and low in omega-6s, along with fish oil, could slow prostate cancer growth in men with low-risk prostate cancer. Over one year, 100 men were split into two groups: one followed the special diet, and the other ate normally. Both groups had biopsies before and after the study.
The key result was that men on the special diet had a 15% reduction in a cancer growth marker (Ki-67), while the regular diet group had a 24% increase. This difference was significant. However, other measures, like cancer grade, tumour size, and PSA levels, didn’t change between the groups.
The results suggest this diet high in omega-3s and low in omega-6s, along with fish oil, might help slow cancer growth and should be studied further in larger trials.
