South Gloucestershire Surgeries Launch 30-Second Prostate Cancer Risk Checker
GP surgeries across South Gloucestershire have launched a powerful new awareness campaign urging men to take just 30 seconds to assess their risk of prostate cancer. The initiative focuses on early detection which is especially important for men over 50, Black men, and those with a family history of the disease.
The campaign promotes a quick and simple online risk checker that asks only three questions. It’s being supported by surgeries in the 4PCN and Network 4 groups, including practices in Hanham, Kingswood, Downend, and more.
To reach men in everyday settings, the campaign uses drinks coasters with QR codes linking directly to the risk checker. These are being distributed in sports clubs, barbers, tattoo parlours, and other community hubs. Local groups like Warmley Men in Sheds and Kingswood RFC are helping to spread the word.
One local man, Alan, shared how his prostate cancer was caught early by chance and is now completely gone. His message is clear: don’t wait until it’s too late.
Dr. Felicity Fay, clinical director of 4PCN, encourages men at higher risk to speak to their GP about PSA testing - a crucial tool in early diagnosis.
- It only takes 30 seconds.
- Check your risk. Talk to your mates.
- Early detection saves lives.
