We were proud to team up with the Stoke Lions, Rotary Club, and local partners to host a hugely successful PSA testing event at Port Vale, with nearly 500 men coming through the doors to be tested. Please watch the video below.
The evening was buzzing with activity as men registered, spoke with volunteers, and completed their blood tests. Carol Godden, Stoke-on-Trent Lions President, said:
“It’s going phenomenally well. We’re already halfway through our target, and this could mean we’ve saved a lot of lives tonight – which is the point of the exercise.”
Attendees praised how quick and simple the process was, while stressing the importance of testing:
“It’s literally just a blood test – but it’s so important for any man over 40 to get checked,” said one participant.
The process itself is straightforward: results are sent out within 5–7 days (sometimes sooner) using a clear traffic light system. Green means all is well, amber means monitoring is needed, and red flags prompt further investigation. As phlebotomist Sasha explained, a red result is not cause for panic – it simply means more checks are required to rule out causes of raised PSA.
This was the second year Stoke Lions and Rotary joined forces to put on this vital community event, and the teams are already planning to make it bigger and better each year. Naomi, representing Port Vale, highlighted another key benefit of the evening:
“It’s about bringing people together – from different organisations and communities – to make sure everyone has access to this incredible screening opportunity.”
With lives saved and awareness raised, events like this show the real impact of community based PSA testing.
If you are a man over 40, don’t wait for symptoms. Book your PSA test today through one of our events or with a home testing kit: https://tgfct.org.uk/Testing-and-Treatments/PSA-Testing
