54-Year-Old Father Discovers Aggressive Prostate Cancer Thanks to At-Home Test
Jason Yeo, a 54-year-old father of two from Devon, discovered he had prostate cancer thanks to a simple at-home PSA test his wife purchased in early 2023. Despite showing no symptoms, the test flagged a problem - and when Jason sought help from his GP, he was advised to “watch and wait” under active surveillance.
Concerned by rising PSA levels, Jason pursued a private MRI scan that revealed an enlarged prostate. Just months later, his PSA levels had nearly doubled, and he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Even then, surveillance was again suggested. It was only through the support of the charity Prost8 that Jason was referred to London for cryotherapy - a focal treatment that freezes cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. Doctors later admitted his cancer was more aggressive than initially thought.
Now in remission, Jason continues regular check-ups but is determined to help others. He has launched the Kick Prostate Cancer into Touch campaign, working with football clubs nationwide to encourage men over 50 to get tested. His message is clear: listen to your gut, act early, and don’t take no for an answer when it comes to your health.
With one in eight men likely to develop prostate cancer, early detection remains the key to saving lives. Jason’s story shows the importance of proactive testing and the life-saving difference it can make.
