Lancashire MP Urges Men to Get Tested for Prostate Cancer - BBC News
Men across Lancashire are being urged to take a proactive approach to prostate health, as South Ribble MP Paul Foster called for improved testing rates in the county.
Foster, who has a strong family history of prostate cancer, revealed that his grandfather died from the disease and his father is currently living with stage four prostate cancer. After recently taking his own PSA blood test, he’s encouraging other men, particularly those over 50, to do the same.
“It’s a personal thing for me, but I really want to champion the cause now and get men tested,” Foster said. “If you get tested early and it’s found early, there’s a 79% chance you can live with it for 10 years or more.”
The MP highlighted that prostate cancer screening rates in Lancashire remain worryingly low, with many men still unaware of how simple and accessible testing is. A PSA test is a quick blood test that can detect potential prostate issues, including cancer, long before symptoms appear. Learn more about PSA testing here.
“The treatments have improved dramatically,” Foster added. “It’s all about early diagnosis.”
At GFCT, we couldn’t agree more. Regular PSA testing saves lives by helping men detect prostate cancer early, when it’s most treatable.
